TOOLS OF THE S-ANON PROGRAM
The tools S-Anon members use to find recovery, serenity and peace in their lives.

bulletGoing to Meetings: For many of us going to meetings is a most important tool. At meetings we are heard and accepted unconditionally for who we are. At meetings we have the opportunity to listen and learn from their experience, strength and hope of other S-Anons.
bullet Sharing: We share our hopes and fears, our successes and failures at meetings, through phone calls and emails with other members of our S-Anon groups. For the first time, we know we are not alone.
bullet Finding and Being a Sponsor: Sponsorship is a special and rewarding experience for both the sponsor and the sponsee. A sponsor is someone with whom we may share a special rapport. The only requirement for choosing a sponsor is that he or she be at least one step ahead of us in the program.
bulletWorking the Steps: Many of us find that our recovery really gets a jump start when we begin working the Twelve Steps of S-Anon. Step work keeps us moving forward one day at a time, one step at a time. Working the steps involves study of the Twelve Steps of S-Anon, answering questions in writing, and then sharing the step with a friend, sponsor or with the group.,
bulletUse of the Slogans: The slogans can be especially helpful during trying, stressful times. They help us direct our attention in a positive direction. Some of the S-Anon slogans include: Let Go and Let God, Easy Does It, Live and Let Live, One Day at a Time, Keep It Simple.
bulletUsing a Journal: Many of us have found that keeping a journal is a very good way to become acquainted with our anger, fear, hopes, and joys. A journal is also a good record of our progress in recovery. Especially when we are feeling stuck, looking back in our journal will show us the progress we have been making one day at a time.
bulletThe Serenity Prayer: This familiar prayer is a source of hope and strength to those of us suffering from the effects of sexaholism in our lives. "God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference."
bulletService: From early on in our recovery we are encouraged to be of service to others. There are many opportunities for service in S-Anon. Being a sponsor, leading a meeting, helping to set up or clean up the meeting room, taking time to reach out to a newcomer after a meeting, making calls, accepting a service position in our group, working on the San Diego S-Anon Intergroup to reach those people who have not yet found us are just some of the ways we do service.
bullet Respecting Anonymity: In order to protect the identities of our S-Anon families, we do not repeat what we have heard in our meetings outside of the meeting. We do not identify S-Anon members or their sexaholic family members or friends to others. This makes it safe for us to share openly in meetings without fear of anything we say being repeated outside of the group.
